I drew the first draft of this little guy in the car. We were bumping along the highway and I somehow managed to crank out a half-decent scribble on a sheet of notebook paper.

After arriving home, I found myself in dire need of some new products for an upcoming craft show: enter this motley critter. I drafted him on some art paper with graphite, then went over with ink and finished with a layer of Prismacolor.

I’ve used this graphite-ink-Prismacolor process since then to make a number of cool critters just like him. The reason I considered using ink in the first place was due to the fact that Inktober 2017 was just around the corner and I was in denial when it came to my inking skills. Coming into Inktober this year, I’m glad I found a new way to draw and would recommend to anyone struggling with a certain medium that they get out their tools and practice, practice, practice. In my case, breaking out the old ink pens was the best thing that could have happened to my art. This fuzzy guy and his friends agree.
